Cincinnati Enquirer

Så när vi satt och käka våfflor i morse sa Christian: “läste ni intervjun i Cincinnati Enquirer?”

”Vilken intervju?”

”En kille från tidningen pratade med mej efter 400 meter loppet.”

”När läste du den?”

”I fredags”

Alla föräldrar vet vilken retorisk fråga som hoppade ut ur våra munnar i det ögonblicket.

While Humphries expected to be wearing a medal Wednesday, Mason junior Chris Lehman was in unfamiliar territory as the winner of the boys' 400 meters.

"I actually haven't run an open in (the 400) since my freshman year," Lehman said. "I'm mostly a four-by-four kind of guy."

Lehman finished the 400 in 50.62, ahead of Princeton's Darnell Gilbert (50.91) and Winton Woods' Juan Glover (51.06).

"Oh yeah," Lehman said when asked if he was surprised. "Last year I was kind of like the third-best 400 guy behind two seniors. They graduated, and just like that all of a sudden I have to be the guy."

After two years of running relays, Lehman said he'd be running solo races all season. The junior also said he suffers from Osgood-Schlatter disease, which can cause knee problems, and was a little banged up because of it entering the race.

"My knees were kind of sore," Lehman said. "I'm not very good getting out of the blocks. I got out and I kind of stood straight up. Normally I kind of have to slow down on the backstretch, but I felt pretty good on this one, so I really didn't have to slow down. I just outkicked the other guys."
